        "content": "<p>The KM Mitra Jaya vessel sank in the waters of Tanjung Api, Asahan\nRegency, North Sumatra, after experiencing a leak and being struck by\nhigh waves. Out of the total 23 people on board, 21 managed to save\nthemselves, while two others are still being searched for.<\/p>\n<p>The Head of the Information Service of Koarmada I, Navy Colonel (P)\nWahyu Kurniawan, stated that the incident occurred on Tuesday (2\/6) at\napproximately 19:00 WIB. The ship was reported to have developed a leak\nin the waters around Tanjung Api while sailing.<\/p>\n<p>According to Wahyu, the crew attempted to save the ship using Alkon\npumps to reduce the amount of water entering the hull. However, the\nrapid influx of water rendered these efforts unsuccessful. \u201cEfforts were\nmade using Alkon pumps, but they were insufficient. Within about 15\nminutes, the ship sank,\u201d he said on Friday (5\/6).<\/p>\n<p>Twenty-one crew members successfully rescued themselves and have\nreturned to their respective homes. Meanwhile, the two individuals still\ndeclared missing are Kahwi (60), the ship\u2019s captain, and Jamil, one of\nthe crew members.<\/p>\n<p>Upon receiving the report, a joint team immediately moved to the\nlocation to conduct search and rescue operations. The search involves\npersonnel from the Sei Berombang TNI AL Post of Lanal Tanjungbalai\nAsahan, Basarnas Tanjungbalai, Polairud, the Sea and Coast Guard (KPLP),\nand local fishermen.<\/p>\n<p>As of Friday (5\/6), the team is still conducting sweeps around the\nincident site, but the two victims have not yet been found. \u201cSearch\noperations are ongoing, but so far, the two victims have not been\nlocated. The search was temporarily halted and will resume the following\nday,\u201d said Wahyu.<\/p>\n<p>The search process faces several obstacles, particularly unfavourable\nweather and high waves in the area. Nevertheless, the joint elements of\nthe Indonesian Navy, Basarnas, and related maritime agencies continue to\nexert maximum effort to find the two victims. \u201cThe joint team continues\nthe search with the hope that the two missing fishermen can be found\nsoon to provide certainty for their families,\u201d he explained.<\/p>",
