        "content": "<p>Ship material duties lifted<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The government has lifted duties on imports of<br>\n299 kinds of materials used for ship repairs and maintenance in a<br>\nbid to support the development of the country&apos;s shipbuilding<br>\nindustry.<\/p>\n<p>Agus Haryanto, spokesman for the Ministry of Finance, said<br>\nyesterday that the Minister of Finance&apos;s Decree No. 192\/1994 on<br>\nthe lifting of duties were retroactive to April 1.<\/p>\n<p>He said the 299 materials used to be subject to import duties<br>\nof five percent to 40 percent.<\/p>\n<p>The materials include hydraulic motors for diesel engines, air<br>\ncompressors, heat exchangers, refrigerating plants, electric<br>\nmotors and fixed fire extinguishing systems.<\/p>\n<p>Haryanto said that materials which are used for the<br>\nconstruction of ship-related facilities, have been exempted from<br>\nthe duties.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;But the new exemption is not eligible for facilities for<br>\nsports boats,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p>The reason is because the two kinds of vessels are categorized<br>\nas non-productive and make no contribution to economic growth, he<br>\nsaid.(fhp)<\/p>",
