        "content": "<p>Ship captain drowns<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The captain of a fishing ship, Sarip, 45,<br>\ndrowned some 60 nautical miles from Sunda Kelapa Port in North<br>\nJakarta early Wednesday after jumping into the sea to avoid<br>\nattack by pirates.<\/p>\n<p>Sugeng, a captain of another vessel operating nearby, said<br>\nyesterday that Sarip's body was found several hours later in the<br>\narea where the incident occurred.<\/p>\n<p>Sugeng said Sarip woke up sometime late Tuesday night or early<br>\nWednesday morning to find that seven pirates had boarded the ship<br>\nand were plundering its navigation equipment, ranging from radio<br>\nto sonar equipment.<\/p>\n<p>Sarip and his eight crew members were unable to stop the<br>\npirates, who were armed with machetes.<\/p>\n<p>\"He became terrified and plunged himself into the sea without<br>\nbringing anything with him,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>The pirates later sailed away with stolen goods worth tens of<br>\nmillion of rupiah. When the crew found that their captain was<br>\nmissing, they became panicked, Sugeng said, adding that they<br>\nlater asked for help from another fishing vessel.<\/p>\n<p>He said Sarip had been the captain of the ship, Jimmy, for<br>\nthree months.<\/p>\n<p>The victim's body was taken to Cipto Mangunkusumo General<br>\nHospital for a postmortem examination.<\/p>\n<p>Yanto, Sarip's brother-in-law, lamented Sarip's death, who had<br>\nbeen a sailor for about 15 years.<\/p>\n<p>\"It's his fate and I hope it won't happen to other people in<br>\nthe future,\" said Yanto.<\/p>\n<p>He said Sarip would be buried in his hometown of Tegal,<br>\nCentral Java.
