Long queues of cars, trucks and buses quickly<br>\ndeveloped as they waited for their turn to board a ferry.<\/p>\n<p>Between 17,000 to 20,000 passengers arrive in Merak each day<br>\nby sea, while passengers departing for Sumatra from the port<br>\nnumber between 10,000 to 16,000 per day.<\/p>\n<p>Fourteen ferries on the route operate 40 trips around the<br>\nclock with a maximum capacity of 900 passengers and 90 vehicles<br>\neach.
