Sherina gets warm response at concert<\/p>\n

JAKARTA (JP): Being a child sensation like Sherina, no matter
\nwhat she will later pursue in life, must be exciting.<\/p>\n
This thought must have crossed the minds of hundreds of
\nchildren, and certainly their parents, while watching the
\nstarlet's concert at the Jakarta Convention Center in Central
\nJakarta on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Who would not want to have a highly talented child who can
\nsing, perform ballet, play piano, get platinum sales for her
\nalbums and star in a movie that grossed billions of rupiah, but
\nstill manage to be among the top students at her school?<\/p>\n
Sherina's success has not changed her much. She still acts the
\nway a 11-year-old girl usually does, and she loves to play as was
\nevident in her A Day with Sherina concert.<\/p>\n
The concert not only featured the hit songs Sherina is famous
\nfor, but used them as the base for a musical drama which was
\nsupported by a variety of guest stars, such as singers Memes,
\nLucy, Agus Wisman, Aning Katamsi and teenage jazz singer Andien.<\/p>\n
The concert received a warm response from the young singer's
\nfans. Some 3,500 people -- mostly parents and their children --
\nhad arrived at the concert venue an hour before the start of the
\nshow at 4 p.m.<\/p>\n
Tickets, with prices ranging from Rp 100,000 (US$9) and Rp
\n200,000 each, sold out well ahead of time, although some scalpers
\nwere seen hawking tickets outside the hall.<\/p>\n
At 4 p.m., the hall doors opened.<\/p>\n
The stage setting was not disappointing. Gigantic doll houses
\nhad been placed on either end and a huge screen was put up in the
\nback of the two-story set.<\/p>\n
The orchestra and musicians were situated on the higher level,
\nwhile in the left-hand corner of the lower level was a bedroom.
\nThe rest of the stage setting was changed according to the songs.<\/p>\n
Half an hour later, the music began and the star -- thinner
\nthan usual but hopefully not due to believing that thin is
\nbeautiful -- appeared.<\/p>\n
The first song was about a lonely princess living in a mirror,
\nbut it was apparently all a dream when mom (Aning) and dad (Agus)
\ncalled her down for breakfast before school.<\/p>\n
Like a scene out of a Disney movie, Sherina belted out Bangun
\nPagi (Wake Up in The Morning) alongside her mom, who has yet to
\nshrug her role as a mere housewife, preparing meals for her
\nfamily and pressing her husband's clothes, and dad -- appearing
\nas a male chauvinist in a three-piece suit.<\/p>\n
Sherina then went off to school to meet her friends and her
\nself-conscious teacher, played by Memes. Here, she sang several
\nnumbers, such as Kembali Ke Sekolah (Back to School), and a
\nmedley of classic children's songs, such as Kapal Api
\n(Steamboat).<\/p>\n
School break came along, and Sherina played with her friends
\nand a school gardener, played by musician Djaduk Ferianto, who
\ngave a comical appearance here.<\/p>\n
The drama became more interesting when she sang her hit song
\nBermain Musik (Playing Music) with a group of children who used
\nvarious household items, such as plastic buckets and pan lids, as
\nmusical instruments.<\/p>\n
Then suddenly, Sadam (Derby Romero) -- Sherina's old enemy in
\nher big screen debut Petualangan Sherina (The Adventure of
\nSherina) -- shows up and ruins all the fun.<\/p>\n
Fans<\/p>\n
Children jumping and constantly screaming \"Sherina! Sherina!\"
\n(boyband concert, anyone?) were a common sight, while others sat
\nin their seats and sung along to the tunes with their idol. Some
\nchaos occurred when dozens of children rushed to the front of the
\nstage when Sherina handed out red roses.<\/p>\n
Although many children enjoyed the show, the two-hour concert
\nwas a little long for them. Some were not patient enough to stay
\nuntil the end of the show.<\/p>\n
\"Sherina, lama (too long)!,\" shouted little Radhi who asked to
\ngo home 45 minutes before the show ended.<\/p>\n
But that was not the little boy's fault. At the time, the
\nsongs were just too boring for children. A medley of several
\nHollywood movie soundtrack hits and opera songs such as Don't Cry
\nFor Me Argentina, Smile and Over The Rainbow were presented
\ninstead of Sherina's repertoire or other popular children's
\nsongs. No wonder the audience got bored.<\/p>\n
But all in all, it was quite an entertaining show for the
\nwhole family. As for Sherina, musician Erwin Gutawa was accurate
\nwhen he recently called her a prime musician.<\/p>",
