Its new facility\nin Marunda, Bekasi, West Java, has an annual production capacity of\n12,000 metric tons of grease, paving the way for import\nsubstitution.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor the Indonesian government, this investment is important because\nit brings new production capacity and manufacturing technology, while\nalso strengthening linkages with supporting domestic industries,\u201d\nIndustry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said during the\ninauguration of the Shell Grease Manufacturing Plant (GMP) in Bekasi on\nWednesday, September 16, 2026, as quoted on the ministry\u2019s official\nwebsite.<\/p>\n<p>The GMP facility complements the Lubricants Oil Blending Plant (LOBP)\ndeveloped by Shell in 2022. The Marunda LOBP now has a capacity of up to\n300 million liters of lubricants per year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith that capacity, the Marunda GMP, according to Shell\u2019s data,\nranks among the top three Shell grease facilities globally,\u201d Minister\nAgus said. This position strengthens Indonesia\u2019s role in the company\u2019s\nglobal manufacturing network.<\/p>\n<p>Import substitution is one of the key impacts of this investment.\nIndonesia\u2019s grease imports under HS code 27101944 are projected to reach\naround 22,377 metric tons by 2025, including approximately 11,757 metric\ntons of Shell Gadus products.<\/p>\n<p>With domestic production now available, Shell Gadus\u2013previously\nimported\u2013can be manufactured in Indonesia. The government views this as\nan opportunity to increase value-added while strengthening domestic\nsupply.<\/p>\n<p>The investment also benefits supporting industries. Shell has\npartnered with more than 50 domestic vendors, with procurement valued at\naround IDR 30 billion (USD 1.69 million) per year. \u201cThe involvement of\ndomestic vendors serves as a solid foundation for building an\nincreasingly robust domestic supply chain ecosystem,\u201d Minister Agus\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>GMP Marunda has implemented automation and modern manufacturing\ntechnologies. The LOBP area also utilizes solar panels that generate\napproximately 1.1 million kWh per year, meeting 17 percent of its\nelectricity needs.<\/p>\n<p>This investment comes as the non-oil and gas processing industry\n(IPNM) grew by 5.32 percent in the second quarter of 2026 (Q2 2026),\nsurpassing the national economic growth rate of 5.29 percent.
