        "content": "<p>SGU has first 20 graduates<\/p>\n<p>The Jakarta Post, Tangerang<\/p>\n<p>The Swiss German University (SGU), the first international<br>\nuniversity in Indonesia, will not be quick to expand its<br>\ndepartments to ensure graduates are of a higher quality, the<br>\nrector said on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;One of the targets we have is that each graduate should get a<br>\njob after studying here,&quot; Peter Pscheid, the university&apos;s rector,<br>\nsaid after the university&apos;s first graduation ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;If the graduates cannot find jobs, something must be wrong.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Starting operations here in 2000 at its campus in Bumi Serpong<br>\nDamai in Tangerang, Banten, the university has had 20 students<br>\ngraduate from its master programs.<\/p>\n<p>The graduates consisted of three mechatronics students, eight<br>\nbusiness and administration students and nine students from<br>\ninformation technology, after they spent an average of two years<br>\nstudying.<\/p>\n<p>SGU also offers three bachelor degree programs. There are also<br>\nbachelor degree programs offered in hotel and management and<br>\napplied business and languages.<\/p>\n<p>About 350 students are studying at the university as a result<br>\nof a collaboration between German, Swiss, Austrian and Indonesian<br>\ngovernments.<\/p>\n<p>Pscheid said apart from gaining the full support of the<br>\ngovernments, SGU had also received support from industries and<br>\nmany universities in the three European countries.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;SGU applies a dual education system, offering courses which<br>\ncombine both theoretical subjects and practical training,&quot; he<br>\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>He said that students&apos; tuition fees, at US$2,200 per semester,<br>\nwere not enough to cover the university&apos;s expenses.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We plan to be financially independent after four years of<br>\noperation.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;At the moment, we have three financial sources to support our<br>\nactivities. Besides the tuition fees, we also have commercial<br>\nloans and grants from Germany,&quot; said Pscheid.<\/p>",
