SGU has first 20 graduates<\/p>\n

The Swiss German University (SGU), the first international
\nuniversity in Indonesia, will not be quick to expand its
\ndepartments to ensure graduates are of a higher quality, the
\nrector said on Saturday.<\/p>\n
"One of the targets we have is that each graduate should get a
\njob after studying here," Peter Pscheid, the university's rector,
\nsaid after the university's first graduation ceremony.<\/p>\n
"If the graduates cannot find jobs, something must be wrong."<\/p>\n
Starting operations here in 2000 at its campus in Bumi Serpong
\nDamai in Tangerang, Banten, the university has had 20 students
\ngraduate from its master programs.<\/p>\n
The graduates consisted of three mechatronics students, eight
\nbusiness and administration students and nine students from
\ninformation technology, after they spent an average of two years
\nstudying.<\/p>\n
SGU also offers three bachelor degree programs. There are also
\nbachelor degree programs offered in hotel and management and
\napplied business and languages.<\/p>\n
About 350 students are studying at the university as a result
\nof a collaboration between German, Swiss, Austrian and Indonesian
\ngovernments.<\/p>\n
Pscheid said apart from gaining the full support of the
\ngovernments, SGU had also received support from industries and
\nmany universities in the three European countries.<\/p>\n
"SGU applies a dual education system, offering courses which
\ncombine both theoretical subjects and practical training," he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
He said that students' tuition fees, at US$2,200 per semester,
\nwere not enough to cover the university's expenses.<\/p>\n
"We plan to be financially independent after four years of
\noperation.<\/p>\n
"At the moment, we have three financial sources to support our
\nactivities. Besides the tuition fees, we also have commercial
\nloans and grants from Germany," said Pscheid.<\/p>",
