Singaporean musician Sezairi has revealed that his connection to\nIndonesia stems from a search for personal identity and family roots.\nSpeaking at a special \u2018Surrender Sessions\u2019 live screening in Pasar\nMinggu, South Jakarta, on Friday (29 May), he explained that his\ngrandparents originated from Pekalongan, Central Java.<\/p>\n
\u2018I am a second-generation Singaporean; my grandparents are from\nPekalongan,\u2019 Sezairi said. However, limited information due to a\ndifficult past left him unaware of his own history. \u2018When I asked my\ngrandparents, they never told me anything. I knew nothing about my\nhistory or where my family came from. They were struggling, and they did\nnot want to talk about their hardships.\u2019<\/p>\n
This lack of historical knowledge drove the singer of \u2018It\u2019s You\u2019 to\nexplore further. For him, Indonesian fans have been crucial in\nrediscovering his lost identity. \u2018Indonesian fans are vital to me\nbecause I learn about myself and my family through them,\u2019 he said. \u2018I\nhave also learned a great deal about myself through this process.\u2019<\/p>\n
