Jakarta (ANTARA) \u2013 Several market stalls and houses on Jalan Peta\nSelatan, RT 011\/RW 01, Kalideres sub-district, Kalideres district, West\nJakarta, were destroyed by fire on Sunday (11 October) night.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe fire affected four stalls, including one furniture stall, four\nhouses and an online parcel distributor,\u201d Syaiful Kahfi, head of\noperations at the West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-agency, said when\ncontacted in Jakarta on Monday.<\/p>\n
Syaiful said the fire was first reported by a resident, Wildan, at\n11.13pm Western Indonesia Time (WIB).<\/p>\n
\u201cThe person who reported it was asleep but woke up because the\nelectricity had gone out. He happened to see that the roof of a house\nwas already on fire, and that the flames had spread to a parcel\nwarehouse and the surrounding area,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The resident contacted West Jakarta fire and rescue officers for help\nas the fire spread further.<\/p>\n
A total of 19 fire engines carrying 95 personnel were deployed to\ntackle the blaze. The operation was difficult because the fire spread\nrapidly.<\/p>\n
\u201cFirefighting began at 11.19pm and was completed at 4.40am,\u201d Syaiful\nsaid.<\/p>\n
The fire left 11 families, comprising 48 people, without homes. The\nvictims are currently staying in temporary shelters.<\/p>\n
