        "content": "<p>Seven students face jail terms for murder<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): A state prosecutor asked the Central Jakarta<br>\nDistrict Court yesterday to send seven high school students to<br>\njail for their alleged roles in a brawl on December that resulted<br>\nin the death of one student.<\/p>\n<p>Charged under Article 170 of the Criminal Code, the seven<br>\nstudents, all 18, could face a maximum 12 years in prison if<br>\nfound guilty.<\/p>\n<p>The students on trial were identified as Doni Rossiyana,<br>\nMahesa Chandra Tambunan, Zulachyar, Effendi, Abdi Riva&apos;i, Fadli<br>\nIlhami and Wibowo.<\/p>\n<p>All of the young defendants are students of SMU VII senior<br>\nhigh school in Kebon Kacang, Central Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutor Lukimanto demanded four-year jail terms for all of<br>\nthem except Doni Rossiyana, who is also charged for illegally<br>\npossessing a sharp weapon.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecutor demanded six years&apos; imprisonment for Doni.<\/p>\n<p>The December brawl involved students of two senior high<br>\nschools, SMU VII and STM 13, in Kebon Kacang district.<\/p>\n<p>The victim, Adnan Fauzi, was a student of STM 13 technical<br>\nhigh school.<\/p>\n<p>In previous court sessions, five of the defendants admitted<br>\ntheir role in beating Adnan, and Doni admitted he stabbed the<br>\nvictim, while Mahesa denied the charge, saying he was hit first<br>\nbefore he beat the victim.<\/p>\n<p>Lukimanto said the defendants deserved punishment because they<br>\ncaused the death of a human being.<\/p>\n<p>He also said a lighter sentence was asked for them because the<br>\ndefendants admitted their crime, showed remorse, were still very<br>\nyoung and were never convicted of a crime before.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Besides that, the defendants&apos; parents met with the victim&apos;s<br>\nfamily and gave them money, which was accepted by the victim&apos;s<br>\nrelatives,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p>After prosecutors read the sentence demand, all of the<br>\ndefendants burst into tears, saying they were very sorry for what<br>\nthey did.<\/p>\n<p>Presiding Judge Subardi said they should not shed any tears<br>\nbecause what they are facing now is nothing compared to the<br>\nfeelings the victim&apos;s family feels every day.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;You will all spend time in jail, but your families and<br>\nfriends can visit you anytime. They will also be able to see you<br>\nwhen you are free. But what about the victim&apos;s family? They will<br>\nnever see Adnan again,&quot; Subardi said harshly.<\/p>\n<p>After the session, the students&apos; parents and families sobbed<br>\nand embraced them and accompanied them to the detention cell of<br>\nthe courthouse.<\/p>\n<p>The trial was adjourned until next week for the defense<br>\nstatement.
