        "content": "<p>The Directorate of Criminal Acts for the Protection of Women and\nChildren and the Eradication of Human Trafficking (PPA-PPO) at the\nNational Police\u2019s Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) has revealed\nthat seven regional police forces (polda) have applied to establish a\nspecial directorate for handling cases involving women and children this\nyear. According to AKBP Ema Rahmawati, Head of the Operations Planning\nSubdivision at the PPA-PPO Directorate of Bareskrim Polri, the\nestablishment of PPA-PPO Directorates at the polda level is being\ncarried out in stages, given the increasingly complex handling of\ncriminal cases involving women and children. \u201cThere are already seven\npolda and 25 polres that will be proposed for upgrading with the\nestablishment of PPA and PPO Directorates,\u201d Ema said during an\non-the-record ANTARA Podcast interview in Jakarta on Monday. The seven\npolda in question are Gorontalo, Riau, Riau Islands, Aceh, Banten, Bali,\nand Lampung. Meanwhile, the 25 polres fall under these seven polda. She\nexplained that the formation of the PPA and PPO Directorates in the\nseven polda is still in the discussion stage and is being refined by\nNational Police Headquarters (Stamarena and the Police Logistics\nBureau), as there are mechanisms that must be followed regarding the\ndevelopment of the institution. \u201cBecause this also relates to the\nbudget, it must be aligned with the Ministry of Finance as well, so it\nis still in process,\u201d she said. The mid-ranking police officer could not\nyet confirm when the PPA and PPO Directorates in the seven polda would\nbe formed. It could be in the near future if there is an organisational\nneed and public pressure. Regarding readiness, she continued, the\nformation needs to consider the preparedness of the polda and polres.\n\u201cThere is indeed a process that must be followed, the readiness of these\npolda and polres must also undergo a feasibility test, whether they are\nready or not, such as their human resources component, budget,\nfacilities and infrastructure, and what the regional-level collaboration\nis like,\u201d she said. \u201cSo that the handling of cases involving women and\nchildren is more focused,\u201d she added. The presence of the PPA and PPO\nDirectorates in these seven polda will increase the number of such\nspecialised directorates at the regional level. This follows the\ninauguration of PPA and PPO Directorates in 11 polda and 22 polres on 21\nJanuary 2026.
