Seven netted in drug raid<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The North Jakarta Police have charged an
\nexecutive of Hailai International Executive Club and six other
\npeople for possession of marijuana and Ecstasy.<\/p>\n
Jakarta Police Spokesman Lt. Col. Iman Haryatna told reporters
\nyesterday that Hendro Sumampouw, 38, the executive of one of the
\nlargest discotheques in town, and the other six suspects were
\napprehended in a predawn raid on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Police said they found 20 marijuana cigarettes, 76 Ecstasy
\npills and a syringe in the offenders' possession, Iman said.<\/p>\n
According to a report made by the North Jakarta Police, two
\nand a half marijuana cigarettes and seven and a half Ecstasy
\npills were seized from Hendro, brother of businessman and
\noperator of overseas casinos Robby Sumampouw.<\/p>\n
\"All of the suspects are currently detained at the police
\noffice, waiting for their dossiers to be completed,\" Iman said.<\/p>\n
The other six suspects were identified as businessman Wilson
\nSilha, 39, and private company employees Frangki Janto Tjahjadi,
\n28, Andhy Slamet Riyadi, 38, Leo Lumandong, 32, Alpin Castille,
\n27, and Yusuf Pranata, 24.<\/p>\n
The arrests were carried out without the knowledge of Hailai
\nemployees.<\/p>\n
\"We don't know if Pak (Mr) Hendro was arrested,\" receptionist
\nSuryo told The Jakarta Post yesterday evening.<\/p>\n
According to Iman, the raid carried out by 192 personnel from
\nthe North Jakarta Police department is part of a routine
\noperation to help reduce the number of crimes, including drug
\noffenses, in the city.<\/p>\n
\"We pledge to send all of the suspects to jail as soon as
\npossible,\" the spokesman said.<\/p>\n
If found guilty, Hendro and the six people, believed to be
\nvisitors at the discotheque, could face maximum imprisonment of
\nsix years and a maximum fine of Rp 10 million (US$4,255).<\/p>\n
Earlier, many alleged that the Jakarta Police might not want
\nto take the risk of arresting certain people who have close a
\nrelationship with high-ranking officials.<\/p>\n
Last week, Jakarta Police Chief Maj. Gen. Hamami Nata denied
