        "content": "<p>Seven govt officials to face corruption probes<\/p>\n<p>The Jakarta Post, Jakarta<\/p>\n<p>President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has endorsed a request from<br>\nthe police and prosecutors to question seven more top regional<br>\nadministration officials in relation to separate corruption<br>\ncases.<\/p>\n<p>Presidential spokesman Andi Mallarangeng said that the seven<br>\nofficials were the regent of Jayawijaya, in Papua, David Agustin<br>\nHubi; regent of Tulang Bawang, Lampung Abdurachman Sarbini,<br>\nregent of Pasuruan, East Java, Jusbakir Aldjufir and his deputy<br>\nMuzammil Safi'i; deputy regent of Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara,<br>\nRuben Funay; deputy regent of Klungkung, Bali, Putu Gede Bawa,<br>\nand deputy mayor of Malang, East Java, Bambang Priyo Utomo.<\/p>\n<p>\"The President approved on Tuesday the request for the<br>\nquestioning of seven (local government) officials,\" Andi was<br>\nquoted by Antara as saying.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the officials would be questioned either as<br>\nwitnesses or suspects in the corruption cases.<\/p>\n<p>\"The move is expected to help accelerate the ongoing<br>\ninvestigation into graft cases,\" he added.<\/p>\n<p>Andi did not provide information about the cases, but he said<br>\nthat the financial losses suffered by the state ranged from Rp 1<br>\nbillion to Rp 56 billion in each case.<\/p>\n<p>Susilo has launched an aggressive campaign to curb rampant<br>\ncorruption in the country since assuming office last October. So<br>\nfar, the President has given approval to the police and<br>\nprosecutors for the investigation of 57 state and local<br>\ngovernment officials. They include eight lawmakers, four<br>\ngovernors, 31 regents, seven deputy regents, six mayors and a<br>\ndeputy mayor.<\/p>\n<p>Suspended Aceh Governor Abdullah Puteh has been sentenced to a<br>\n10-year prison term for corruption in the purchase of a<br>\nhelicopter for the local provincial administration. He is the<br>\nfirst governor to be punished for graft under the Susilo<br>\nadministration.<\/p>",
