        "content": "<p>Seven drowned in ship mishap<\/p>\n<p>KENDARI, Southeast Sulawesi: At least seven people drowned<br>\nwith several others missing when the Lintas Samudera cargo ship<br>\nsank off Tanjung Teipo early Monday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Rescue teams found 42 survivors but the true number of those<br>\non board is unknown as the ship did not keep a proper log.<\/p>\n<p>\"We still don't know exactly how many were on board. From<br>\nthose who survived we have gathered that six are missing,\" said<br>\nMawardi Yusuf, head of the province's communications office.<\/p>\n<p>However others estimate that as many as 70 may have been on<br>\nthe ship.<\/p>\n<p>The ship's captain, Udin, also did not know how many<br>\npassengers he was carrying.<\/p>\n<p>The ship, which serves the Tanjung Taipa-Kendari route, was<br>\nnot designed as a passenger ship. However due to slow business it<br>\npermitted passengers on board.<\/p>\n<p>\"What we regret most of all is that the ship, without proper<br>\nnavigational or communications equipment, still carried that many<br>\npassengers,\" Mawardi remarked.<\/p>\n<p>\"When it got into trouble there was no one they could turn<br>\nto for help\".<\/p>\n<p>Antara reported that the ship sank after being hit by strong<br>\nwaves.<\/p>",
