Seven arrested for robbery<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): City police have arrested seven people suspected
\nof being members of a group of robbers targeting houses in
\nGreater Jakarta, an official said on Thursday.<\/p>\n
City police spokesman Lt. Col. Zainuri Lubis said the seven
\nwere arrested on Tuesday in one of the suspects' house on Jl.
\nSerdang Baru in the Kemayoran district of Central Jakarta.<\/p>\n
\"They claimed to have robbed dozens of houses in Jakarta,
\nTangerang, Bekasi and Depok,\" Lubis said, adding the robbers
\nalways used rental cars when robbing the homes.<\/p>\n
The seven men, identified as Budi Riyanto, Bambang, Sunarto,
\nAri Juwanto, Eko, Prenggo and Bagas, committed the first robbery
\nin December last year, Lubis said.<\/p>\n
From the seven suspects, police confiscated three 20-inch
\ntelevision sets, three Pioneer laser disc players, two Sony video
\ncompact disc players, a Polytron stereo, two electric fans, a
\nPresident suitcase and a Echolac suitcase, he said.<\/p>\n
Police also seized crowbars, hammers and a number of
\nscrewdrivers believed to have been used in the crimes.<\/p>\n
The suspects said they frequently obtained information on
\npotential targets from ojek (motorcycle taxi) drivers and
\nhousemaids.<\/p>\n
\"They entered the houses by breaking the front door or a
\nwindow,\" Lubis said.<\/p>\n
One of the suspects, Budi Riyanto, said on a good day they
\ncould earn at least Rp 50 million in a single robbery.<\/p>\n
The group sold the stolen items on the black market in a
\nnumber of areas in Jakarta, according to Lubis.<\/p>\n
Another suspect, Bambang, was chosen to sell the goods to
\nbuyers at the black markets because he had worked at Tanjung
\nPriok port in North Jakarta where he helped sell smuggled
\nelectronic goods, Lubis added.<\/p>\n
\"The buyers knew me as a middleman for smuggled electronics,\"
