Setting up a cooperative<\/p>\n
In June 2002, the employees of STIE Bisnis Indonesia agreed to
\nset up a cooperative under the name Almatama. Having completed
\nall the required documents, we registered the establishment with
\nthe Cooperative Office at Jl. MT Haryono, South Jakarta.<\/p>\n
However, the head of the Cooperative Office said that to
\nlegalize the cooperative the documents had to be signed by the
\nJakarta governor, because Jakarta is an autonomous region.<\/p>\n
After about six months, the head of the Cooperative Office was
\nreplaced. We were stuck in limbo and after two years our
\ncooperative had not been legalized.<\/p>\n
Finally, we took the documents to the Office of the State
\nMinister for Cooperatives and we were asked to prepare a new
\nstatute and bylaw to be legalized by a notary public. In
\naddition, we were required to make a business plan and deposit a
\ncertain amount of money in a bank.<\/p>\n
To cut the story short, as of May 2005, despite all the
\nrequirements having been completed, our cooperative permit has
\nnot been issued. Their argument has always been: "There is a new
\nhead of the office coming in, etc."<\/p>\n
We need an explanation regarding this matter, and about how
\nmuch we have to pay to set up a cooperative that is run by
\nemployees of an educational institution.<\/p>\n
