Serpong-Jakarta railway study<\/p>\n
TANGERANG (JP): The developer of the new satellite city, Bumi
\nSerpong Damai, is studying the possibility of reopening the defunct
\nJakarta-Serpong railway route in cooperation with the state-owned
\nrailway company Perumka.<\/p>\n
Johannes Tulung, the developer's public relations manager, was
\nquoted by the Republika daily as saying that the reopening of the
\nrailway route will provide alternative cheap mass transportation.<\/p>\n
"The reopening of the railway route is intended to give
\ntransportation services to commuters working in Jakarta," he said,
\nadding that if Perumka agrees with the plan, the route will be
\nserved by executive class trains.<\/p>\n
He said that representatives of both Bumi Serpong Damai and
\nPerumka had held a number of serious talks.<\/p>\n
Perumka used to operate trains plying between Jakarta and
\nSerpong stations. The service was stopped after a collision of two
\ntrains last April, which killed a large number of passengers. (hhr)<\/p>",
