        "content": "<p>Serious investigation on journalist murder sought<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Senior media officials urged the government<br>\nyesterday to investigate last week&apos;s murder of a journalist in<br>\nthe West Kalimantan capital of Pontianak.<\/p>\n<p>The information ministry&apos;s director general of press and<br>\ngraphics, Subrata, and the Indonesian Journalists Association&apos;s<br>\nsecretary general, Parni Hadi, said the police&apos;s investigation<br>\nshould be impartial and the results made public.<\/p>\n<p>A correspondent from Jakarta&apos;s Sinar Pagi crime daily,<br>\nNaimullah, 42, was found dead Saturday in Pontianak&apos;s northern<br>\noutskirts.<\/p>\n<p>His body was found in the back seat of his car which was<br>\nparked on a beach. He had injuries to his head, neck, chest and<br>\nwrists.<\/p>\n<p>A witness said he saw four men run from Maiullah&apos;s car to a<br>\nget away car and escape.<\/p>\n<p>Some of his colleagues believed his death was connected to his<br>\narticles on timber smuggling and theft in West Kalimantan that<br>\nallegedly involved officials.<\/p>\n<p>Naimullah was the third Indonesian journalists murdered in the<br>\npast two years.<\/p>\n<p>A Yogyakarta-based Bernas daily journalist, Fuad Muhammad<br>\nSyafruddin, alias Udin, was murdered last year.<\/p>\n<p>His murder was allegedly connected with his reports on<br>\ncorruption in the Bantul regency administration.<\/p>\n<p>The dossiers on Dwi Sumaji, Udin&apos;s alleged murderer, were<br>\nsubmitted to the Bantul District Court on July 15 despite<br>\naccusations of an attempted police cover up.<\/p>\n<p>A trial date has not yet been set.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, Sayuti Haji Buchori, a journalist for the<br>\nUjungpandang-based Pos Makassar was found unconscious, with<br>\nwounds to his head and neck, on Jl. Garuda in Luwu subdistrict<br>\nabout midday on June 9.<\/p>\n<p>He died in hospital later the same day.<\/p>\n<p>Police denied his death had something to do with his reports<br>\non corruption in Luwu subdistrict, saying witnesses saw him fall<br>\noff his motorbike while trying to avoid an oncoming truck.<\/p>\n<p>The Indonesian Journalists Association South Sulawesi chapter<br>\nhas formed its own fact-finding team to investigate.<\/p>\n<p>Pos Makassar has referred the case to a team of lawyers to<br>\nprobe further.<\/p>\n<p>Subrata called on the public not to hastily conclude that<br>\nNaimullah&apos;s death was connected to his articles and to let the<br>\npolice investigate.
