Attention to education needed<\/p>\n

With a population of roughly 220 million, Indonesia has about
\n18.7 million illiterate people and a high rate of school dropouts
\ndue to soaring educational costs. Meanwhile, a large number of
\nschool buildings are in disrepair.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately, the gloomy state of the education sector has
\nnot received proper attention from the government. In fact,
\nimproving human resources is the best way for the country to move
\ntoward a better future.<\/p>\n
The solution sought by the House of Representatives by setting
\naside 20 percent of the budget for education is extremely
\nsimplistic, while the amount of this proposed allocation is not
\nthat large and hasn't even secured government approval yet.<\/p>\n
This is the reason why education in the country is
\nincreasingly expensive and a growing number of citizens fail to
\npursue higher levels of study. The situation is worsened by
\ncorruption and illegal fees, even at state schools, which
\neffectively shut the poor out of education.<\/p>\n
Therefore, we need to motivate foundations and organizations
\nengaged in education to assist those who cannot afford school
\nfees by providing scholarships for students at all levels and
\ntextbooks in all subjects.<\/p>\n
