'Separatism in NTT no threat'<\/p>\n
KUPANG, East Nusa Tenggara: The military commander overseeing
\nEast Nusa Tenggara, Col. Inf. Moeswarno Moesanip, has dismissed
\nplans to unite the Indonesian side of West Timor with the
\nindependent East Timor, saying the threat was not serious.<\/p>\n
\"Plans to establish a Great Timor nation will never work,\" he
\nsaid on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Talk of the possibility of uniting West Timor in East Nusa
\nTenggara with the independent East Timor has been making the
\nrounds among students and non-governmental organizations here.<\/p>\n
Moeswarno said he was aware that people had been talking about
\nsecession, but he was not taking it seriously.<\/p>\n
\"If serious action is taken to provoke people into conspiring
\nagainst Indonesia, then the TNI (Indonesian Military) will

AMBON, Maluku: Maj. Gen. Agustadi, the chief of the Pattimura
\nMilitary Command, which oversees Maluku, said on Wednesday that
\nrecent security improvements in the province were not enough
\nreason to lift the state of civil emergency.<\/p>\n
Agustadi said he was not considering lifting the state of
\nemergency just yet, reasoning that much work needed to be done to
\nensure that violence would not return.<\/p>\n
\"So for this year, the state of civil emergency might not be
\nlifted. However we are moving in that direction,\" he said.<\/p>\n
A state of civil emergency has been in force in Maluku since
\n2000, after sectarian clashes erupted in the province.<\/p>\n
Fighting between Muslims and Christians abated after the
\nsigning of the Malino peace agreement last year.<\/p>\n
However, sporadic violence continues, which some suspect is
\naimed at reigniting the three-year sectarian conflict.<\/p>\n
Separatism sentiment among the mainly Christian community in

MEDAN, North Sumatra: Prosecutors have named a doctor from a
\nlocal hospital a suspect in the embezzlement of money earmarked
\nfor health projects last year.<\/p>\n
Head of the Medan Prosecutor's Office Nawir Anas said on
\nWednesday that the suspect, identified only as 45-year-old Dr.
\nDN, had illegally taken a 30 percent commission from hospital
\nprojects funded by the fuel subsidy.<\/p>\n
Nawir did not mention the value of the projects. Last year,
\nMedan received a Rp 21.9 billion (about US$2.4 million) fuel
\nsubsidy.<\/p>\n
The central government disbursed the funds to alleviate the
\nimpact of higher fuel prices on the poor, after its move to
\ngradually eliminate fuel subsidies for the general public.<\/p>\n
Nawir said the suspect worked at the Adam Malik General
\nHospital in Medan. Prosecutors, he added, had so far questioned
\n25 witnesses in connection with the case.<\/p>\n
