        "content": "<p>Senayan to have another business center<\/p>\n<p>Bambang Nurbianto, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta<\/p>\n<p>Amid concern over the lack of green space in the city, a new<br>\nbusiness center functioning as an office block, apartments, and a<br>\nshopping center will be developed in Senayan, Central Jakarta,<br>\nwhich is designated as a green area according to the 1985-2005<br>\ncity master plan.<\/p>\n<p>The new business center, which is now being marketed, is<br>\nlocated on the corner of Jl. Asia Afrika and Jl. Hang Lekir I in<br>\nfront of Plaza Senayan, another business center, which was also<br>\noriginally part of the green area.<\/p>\n<p>\"The developer promises us that the new business center known<br>\nas Senayan City will be opened in August. But I do not know<br>\nwhether it will really materialize by then,\" a marketing agent<br>\ntold The Jakarta Post on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The agent, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said his<br>\ncompany and five others had been appointed by the project<br>\ndeveloper, whose office is at Wisma 77 on Jl. Lt. Gen. S. Parman,<br>\nWest Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>If it materializes, the new business center, which will occupy<br>\nsome 40,000 square meters of land, will join other controversial<br>\nbuildings, including Plaza Senayan, Hotel Mulia, and Taman Ria<br>\nSenayan in the Senayan area, on land which was supposed to be<br>\nallocated for sport activities and public green space.<\/p>\n<p>The construction is also in contradiction to the city<br>\nadministration's plan to add green space in the city from some 9<br>\npercent to about 14 percent of the capital's total territory as<br>\nspecified in the 2010 city master plan.<\/p>\n<p>Chairman of Jakarta's Indonesian Forum for the Environment<br>\n(Walhi) Ahmad \"Puput\" Safrudin stressed that the plan to develop<br>\nthe new business center confirmed the accusation that the city<br>\nadministration had no commitment to protecting the environment.<\/p>\n<p>Puput stressed that based on the 1985-2005 city master plan,<br>\nthe Senayan area, particularly that which is under the control of<br>\nthe Senayan Sport complex authority, functions as a green area as<br>\nwell as public space, which cannot be developed for business<br>\nfunctions.<\/p>\n<p>But based on the 2010 city master plan, the land-use has been<br>\nconverted from a green area to a red area, which can be used for<br>\nbuilding a business center.<\/p>\n<p>\"The business center will further reduce the already-<br>\ndiminishing green area in the city. It has also confirmed the<br>\ninsensitivity of the city leaders to environmental problems,\"<br>\nPuput said.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy head of the Jakarta Planning Agency Ismail Zubir said<br>\nthat the development of Senayan City was delayed due to the<br>\neconomic crisis in 1997. He refuted the fact that the location<br>\nwas a green area.<\/p>\n<p>A security officer guarding the land on Jl. Asia Afrika said<br>\nthat the developer of the project had accessed the land for the<br>\nproject early last month.<\/p>\n<p>\"I do not know when the project will be started, but the land<br>\nhas been surveyed,\" said the security officer. He said that<br>\noriginally the land was allocated for building a hotel, but later<br>\nit was changed into the super bloc.<\/p>\n<p>Jangga Lubis, an official at the city building supervision<br>\nagency also confirmed that license permits for the foundation and<br>\nstructure of the building had been issued by the office in April<br>\n1997 and in August 1997 respectively.<\/p>\n<p>\"The construction can be started anytime as the developer has<br>\nsecured permits for constructing its foundation and structure,\"<br>\nJangga told the Post.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, officials from the developer company refused on<br>\nFriday to give information about the project.<\/p>\n<p>Profile of the planned Senayan City<\/p>\n<p>1.
