Jayapura (ANTARA) \u2014 Lalita, a member of the Regional Representative\nCouncil (DPD RI) from the Papua electoral district (Dapil), has awarded\nscholarships to 10 Papuan students to enable them to continue their\neducation to a higher level.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis scholarship programme is a form of my concern, seeing that many\nPapuan children have good academic ability but are at risk of stopping\ntheir education due to financial constraints,\u201d she said in a statement\nin Jayapura on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
According to Lalita, education is the most valuable investment for\nthe future of Papuan children, which is why she decided to become a\nfoster parent to a number of students judged to have strong achievements\nand a high enthusiasm for learning.<\/p>\n
\u201cI brought together the parents and the children I have sponsored\nsince last year. This is entirely funded from my own money because I\nwant to help them,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
She explained that the students\u2019 success is a happiness that cannot\nbe measured in material terms, and it is hoped that this assistance can\nhelp the 10 students complete their education.<\/p>\n
\u201cPapuan children have the same ability to compete with students from\nacross Indonesia, provided they are given equal opportunities,\u201d she\nadded.<\/p>\n
She noted that building Papua requires not only physical development\nbut also ensuring that the younger generation has access to a proper\neducation.<\/p>\n
She expressed hope that more high-achieving Papuan children will have\nthe opportunity to pursue higher education and, in time, become leaders\nwho develop the land of Papua.<\/p>\n
\u201cI believe the future of Papua is in the hands of these children. For\nthat reason, as long as I am able, we will continue to try to help them.\nNo Papuan child\u2019s dream should stop simply because of financial\nproblems,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
