        "content": "<p>Sempati, SilkAir link Lombok-S&apos;pore<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): One more airport in Indonesia now handles<br>\ninternational services, promising a greater number of foreign<br>\nvisitors to the country, bringing in foreign exchange revenues.<\/p>\n<p>Sempati Air, one of Indonesia&apos;s private air carriers, in<br>\ncooperation with SilkAir of Singapore, launched yesterday the<br>\nfirst service linking Singapore and Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara.<br>\nThe service uses Fokker-70 aircraft.<\/p>\n<p>The two airlines, based on an agreement signed on March 1,<br>\nserve the routes four times weekly, every Tuesday, Thursday,<br>\nFriday and Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Lombok is one of the country&apos;s islands offering various<br>\ntourist attractions, including white sand beaches. Most air<br>\ntransportations to the island are stop-over services via<br>\nDenpasar, Bali.<\/p>\n<p>In the first phase of the new straight through service, which<br>\nis marketed in Europe, the United States and northern Asia,<br>\nSilkAir operates Fokker-70s with 78 seats.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia and Singapore agreed last September to expand air<br>\nservices. Based on the agreement, Indonesia has additional rights<br>\nfor commercial flights between Singapore and Indonesia, while<br>\nSingapore has the right to fly through Indonesia to Australia,<br>\nNew Zealand, South Pacific countries and North America. Two more<br>\nIndonesian airlines Bouraq and Mandala, which mainly serve<br>\ndomestic destinations, will soon serve flights to and from<br>\nSingapore.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to its sister company Singapore Airlines, SilkAir<br>\nhas the right to serve Indonesia as well. SilkAir currently links<br>\nSingapore with Medan in North Sumatra (seven times per week),<br>\nManado in North Sulawesi (two times per week) and Jakarta (21<br>\ntimes per week). SilkAir&apos;s other services include thrice weekly<br>\nflights to Pekanbaru, Riau, and Padang, West Sumatra.<\/p>\n<p>Sempati, which operates one Fokker-70, five Fokker-27s, seven<br>\nFokker-100s, six Boeing-737-200s and three Airbus-300-B4s,<br>\ncurrently serves several overseas destinations, including Kuala<br>\nLumpur and Penang in Malaysia, Singapore, Taipei, Taiwan, Perth,<br>\nAustralia and Christmas Island.
