Semen Cibinong keeps operating<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Cement producer PT Semen Cibinong announced
\nSaturday that workers' unrest at the unit four of the Narogong
\nplant in West Java has not affected its operation.<\/p>\n
\"Physical conditions of the plant, the mine, and the cement
\ntransportation sector have not been disrupted, operation
\ncontinues as normal,\" Semen Cibinong president Hashim
\nDjojohadikusumo said in a statement Saturday.<\/p>\n
Hashim said the construction of the unit four of the plant
\nsite, also located in Narogong, would continue despite the
\nunrest.<\/p>\n
On Saturday morning, 1,000 casual workers of the expansion
\nproject at the unit four caused havoc at the plant site,
\ndestroying and burning the plant's sentry post and security guard
\noffice.<\/p>\n
The riot was said to have been caused by the arrest the
\nprevious day of four construction workers who were caught
\nstealing construction materials.<\/p>\n
The company said the rioting workers demanded that their four
\ncoworkers be freed.<\/p>\n
It said the police and the military of Bogor, West Java, came
\nto calm the workers within three hours and no major damage or
\ncasualties were reported.<\/p>\n
Semen Cibinong's Narogong and Cilacap plants produce 8,000
\ntons of cement respectively a day<\/p>\n
The publicly listed company is owned by the Tirtamas Group,
\ncontrolled by Hashim.<\/p>\n
It is now able to produce 7.1 million tons of cement a year.
\nAbout 3 million tons of which can be produced at the Narogong
\nplant and the remaining 4.1 million tons at its two plants in
\nCilacap, the company said.<\/p>\n
The company aims to sell over 5 million tons of cement this
