Security up at City Council<\/p>\n
To ensure security during the inauguration of 75 new council
\nmembers, the police will reroute traffic heading toward Jl. Kebon
\nSirih, Central Jakarta, to Jl. Agus Salim and Jl. KH Wahid Hasyim
\nfrom 7 a.m. on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Tjiptono said on Tuesday
\nthat only motorists with an invitation to the ceremony would be
\nallowed to enter the road leading to the City Council compound.<\/p>\n
"We don't want to take any risks ... we are prepare for any
\nrally or terrorist attack," Tjiptono said.<\/p>\n
The swearing-in ceremony will be conducted under tight
\nsecurity, with at least 100 internal security guards deployed
\ninside the compound, backed by 1,200 public order officers and
\nmore than 430 police officers.<\/p>\n
"We will require all guests, including new councillors, to
\nundergo security checks," said Mulyadi, head of the council
\nsecurity.<\/p>\n
The Jakarta Post observed on Tuesday visitors passing at least
\nthree security checks in order to enter the main rooms in the
\nbuilding.<\/p>\n
The chairman of the Jakarta General Elections Commission,
\nMuhamad Taufik, said that Minister of Home Affairs Hari Sabarno
\nhad included two councillors facing fraud allegations in his
\ndecree listing new council members to be inaugurated.<\/p>\n
The two, Mustaman and Sumiati Soekarno from the Indonesian
\nDemocratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), are being investigated for
\ndocument forgery used to run in the April 5 election.<\/p>\n
The police are also investigating an alleged vote-buying case
\ninvolving Abdullah Prawiradirja, who will also be sworn in on
\nWednesday.<\/p>\n
If the court finds them guilty, the three could be dismissed
\nfrom the council, Taufik said.<\/p>\n
The inauguration will be followed by the opening general
\nsession presided over by Dani Anwar of the largest faction, the
\nProsperous Justice Party faction. -- JP<\/p>",
