Security concerns haunt annual Jakarta Fair<\/p>\n

International trade fairs and exhibitions to be hosted by the
\nJakarta Fairground in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, are likely to
\nsee less participants and exhibitors due to heightening political
\ntensions prior to the general elections.<\/p>\n
The new owner of the fairground, tycoon Siti Hartati Murdaya,
\nsaid on Monday that foreign participants would be highly affected
\nby security concerns.<\/p>\n
She did not provide details on the number of foreign
\nparticipants the venue welcomed annually.<\/p>\n
The Fairground comprises office buildings on a 251,000-square-
\nmeter plot and has hosted the annual Jakarta Fair since the
\n1990s. Prior to then, it was held around the National Monument
\n(Monas) in Medan Merdeka Square.<\/p>\n
Hartati asserted that her company would improve the Fairground
\nmanagement.<\/p>\n
\"We are in the process of recruiting professional event
\norganizers to promote exhibitions and trade fairs that will
\nattract more foreign participants,\" she said, adding that the
\nmanagement would also renovate several rooms and construct extra
\nhalls in the Fairground buildings to lure more visitors.<\/p>\n
Hartati said the management had already appointed PT Adi
\nParking to operate the Fairground parking lot.<\/p>\n
\"In the past, parking also fell under the management's
\nresponsibility. We plan to leave the parking management to a
\nprofessional company, but we'll try to keep the fee low,\" she
\nsaid, as many visitors to the Fairground were from the lower
\nincome bracket.<\/p>",
