Secretary's death caused by strangulation: Police<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Police revealed yesterday that the death of Ida
\nRezeki, 32, who was found hanging on a rope in her house two
\nmonths ago, was caused by congestion of her respiratory system.<\/p>\n
City Police spokesman Lt. Col. A. Latief Rabar said that based
\non the autopsy report, the clogging of her respiration system is
\nbelieved to have been caused by strangulation with a rope.<\/p>\n
The post mortem also stated that bruises found on the
\ndeceased's body did not cause her death, he said.<\/p>\n
\"None of the bruises were deadly wounds,\" he said.<\/p>\n
He, however, refused to disclose the police's next step in
\nresolving the case.<\/p>\n
Ida was found dead by her husband, Harry Fardiman, also 32, on
\nApril 30 in their house at the PN Timah housing complex in
\nCilandak.<\/p>\n
About a month after her death, South Jakarta police chief Lt.
\nCol. Adang Rismanto concluded that Ida had committed suicide.<\/p>\n
The police, however, were unable to find substantial evidence
\nto support that conclusion.<\/p>\n
Foul play?<\/p>\n
Contacted by The Jakarta Post yesterday evening to comment on
\nthe results of the autopsy, Ida's relatives, who have continually
\nrefuted the police's conclusion that she committed suicide, were
\nadamant that someone strangled her to death.<\/p>\n
\"We still strongly believe that my daughter was tortured to
\ndeath before being hung on the rope by someone who was with her
\nin the house,\" said the deceased's father, Mohamad Isa.<\/p>\n
\"Ida was only 155 centimeters tall while the distance from the
\nfloor to the ceiling is 240 cm. No chairs or benches were found
\nat the scene of her death that could have helped her fasten the
\nrope to the ceiling. Thus, there must have been someone else in
\nthe house,\" Isa said.<\/p>\n
Ida's brother-in-law, Arrizal Boer, who works as a lawyer,
\nadded: \"If the police later decide to stop their investigation
\ninto the cause of her death, we ourselves will do our best to
\nuncover the mystery and find the culprit. That's our pledge!\"<\/p>\n
Isa was perplexed as to why the police gave no further
\nexplanation about the bruises. \"The police did not bother to
\nexplain to us how my daughter could have sustained those serious
\nbruises, including a tiny stab wound on the upper part of her
\nbreast,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Love affair?<\/p>\n
He said he and Ida's other relatives have uncovered
\nsubstantial evidence into Ida's mysterious death that could
\neventually help find her killer.<\/p>\n
Isa revealed that Harry, a staffer of a building contracting
\nfirm, was believed to have had an illicit love affair with their
\nhousemaid, Ina, 18, who was fired a few weeks before Ida's death.<\/p>\n
Latief said yesterday that Ina's sister, a housemaid for
\nHarry's parents, told police that Ina has been living in Central
\nJava since March 3.<\/p>\n
But Boer denied this, claiming that Ina worked at the victim's
\nhouse through March 8. (bsr)<\/p>",
