        "content": "<p>Secretaries for listed firms<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The Capital Market Supervisory Agency is<br>\nrequiring all publicly listed companies to appoint corporate<br>\nsecretaries before the end of this year.<\/p>\n<p>The head of the capital market watchdog's law department, I<br>\nNyoman Tjager, said yesterday that any listed company should<br>\nhave a corporate secretary by Jan. 1, 1997 at the latest.<\/p>\n<p>\"The appointment of a corporate secretary is obligatory to<br>\npromote services to the investing public,\" he told members of the<br>\nassociation of publicly listed companies in a meeting.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the corporate secretary will serve as a contact<br>\nperson between a publicly listed company and the capital market<br>\nauthority, as well as the investing public.<\/p>\n<p>Nyoman also said that founders of listed companies -- or share<br>\nissuers -- should add the abbreviation \"Tbk\" at the end of their<br>\ncompanies' names in order to distinguish them from unlisted<br>\nfirms.<\/p>\n<p>\"Tbk\" is the abbreviation of \"Terbuka\", which means that the<br>\ncompany is publicly listed.(hen)<\/p>",
