Bandung (ANTARA) - The Ground Control Intercept (GCI) radar,\nmanufactured by PT Len Industri Bandung, which is the second of 13\nradars prepared by the government, officially commenced operations to\nstrengthen Indonesian air surveillance on Monday. This was confirmed\nduring the handover of the GCI radar as part of the national strategic\ndefence equipment (alutsista) delivery by the Ministry of Defence to the\nTNI at the Apron Pandawa, Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta,\nwitnessed directly by President Prabowo Subianto.<\/p>\n
In an official statement received in Bandung, Prabowo emphasised that\nthis addition of defence equipment is a strategic move to strengthen\nnational defence capabilities as a national deterrent. \u201cWe want to\nensure that the security of Indonesia\u2019s airspace, sea, and land remains\nwell-maintained. A strong defence is a primary requirement for\nmaintaining the stability and sovereignty of the nation,\u201d said\nPrabowo.<\/p>\n
The GCI radar, which is projected to strengthen the national air\nsurveillance system through early detection and integrated interception\ncontrol, was handed over directly by the President Director of PT Len\nIndustri, Joga Dharma Setiawan, accompanied by the Director of Business\n& Cooperation, Irwan Ibrahim.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis GCI radar not only strengthens national airspace surveillance\ncapabilities but also demonstrates the domestic industry\u2019s ability to\nmaster strategic defence technology. We are committed to continuously\nsupporting the interoperability of the national defence system through\nthe development of reliable and sustainable technology,\u201d said Joga.<\/p>\n
In addition to the strengthening of the radar system, the procurement\nof Rafale fighter jets also provides an enhancement to Len\u2019s\ncapabilities in communication interoperability and data links through\nthe Rafale offset training programme. Previously, Len\u2019s Link ID\ncapabilities were focused on communication between warships and\nsurveillance aircraft.
