A week-long search for five journalists and crew members who lost\ncontact in the waters near Mount Anak Krakatau has yielded no results.\nConsequently, the search operation has been extended for an additional\nthree days.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am reporting the evaluation of the seventh day of the SAR (Search\nand Rescue) operation, which remains unsuccessful. Following the results\nof the coordination meeting presented by the Governor, we will continue\nthe operation for the next three days,\u201d said the Head of the Banten\nSearch and Rescue Office, Al Amrad, at the joint SAR post in Carita,\nPandeglang, on Monday (14\/9).<\/p>\n
Al Amrad stated that every search effort conducted by the SAR Team is\nbased on data provided by the BMKG (Meteorology, Climatology, and\nGeophysical Agency) and PVMBG (Centre for Volcanology and Geological\nHazard Mitigation). During this extension, the agency will continue to\ndeploy its standby fleet.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs usual, we evaluated from the first to the seventh day to identify\nour challenges and the areas we have yet to cover,\u201d said Al Amrad.<\/p>\n
Banten Governor Andra Soni stated that the extension was requested by\nthe families of the missing and the Banten Provincial Government. Andra\nrequested that the search process be optimised, expressing hope that the\nfive journalists, two crew members, and one guide aboard the Arupadhatu\nI vessel return safely.<\/p>\n
\u201cAccording to SAR Law number 29 of 2014, the search period is set at\nseven days, but it can be extended for several reasons, including\nrequests from families and local governments,\u201d said Andra Soni in\nPandeglang on Monday (14\/9\/2026).<\/p>\n
\u201cOn behalf of the Banten Provincial Government, we request Basarnas,\nas well as support from the Banten Regional Police\u2014specifically the\nMarine and Air Police\u2014the Banten Naval Base, and all stakeholders in\nBanten Province, to continue this operation in accordance with\napplicable laws,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Search Area Expanded<\/strong><\/p>\n The search process has entered its eighth day. The search has been\nexpanded to sweep the area around Enggano Island in Bengkulu.<\/p>\n \u201cOn this eighth day, we have expanded the search across several\nmaritime sectors involving joint SAR elements, including Basarnas, the\nTNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces), the Polri (Indrionesian National\nPolice), and other potential SAR contributors,\u201d said the Head of the\nBanten Search and Rescue Office, Al Amrad, on Tuesday (15\/9\/2026).<\/p>\n \u201cWe are also monitoring the coastal areas of Bengkulu and Enggano\nIsland as an anticipatory measure in case there is any movement of\nvictims or objects related to this incident,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n Al Amrad noted that the joint SAR team plans to sweep five sectors\ncovering a total area of approximately 3,962 nautical miles squared. He\nalso mentioned that the SAR team has deployed drones.<\/p>\n \u201cIn addition to the sea search, the joint SAR team has prepared two\nBasarnas thermal drone units to support aerial monitoring,\u201d said Al\nAmrad.<\/p>\n Sub-section Head of Operations and Readiness at Basarnas Banten,\nRizky Dwianto, stated that they are being assisted by the Bengkulu SAR\nteam to conduct searches in that region.<\/p>\n \u201cWe have mapped the area, and we are being assisted by the Bengkulu\nSAR office to cover their jurisdiction,\u201d said Rizky.<\/p>\n Rizky expressed hope that there would be clues regarding the\nwhereabouts of the group of journalists in the Bengkulu area. He noted\nthat the search in Bengkulu waters is being conducted based on mapping\nperformed by his team.<\/p>\n \u201cThe SAR map we predicted leads towards the Bengkulu SAR office area,\nwhich is already being covered by our colleagues from the Bengkulu SAR\noffice,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Searches via helicopter have also been conducted, but no signs of the\ngroup have been found.<\/p>\n \u201cYesterday, with HR-3604, we conducted a sweep of the entire area for\napproximately two hours. According to information from the helicopter\ncrew, there were no signs found,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n 20 Vessels Deployed<\/strong><\/p>\n Rizky stated that 20 vessels have been deployed for the search\noperation on the eighth day. The SAR team is sweeping the waters of the\nSunda Strait, covering an area of 3,962 nautical miles squared.<\/p>\n \u201cThe search area for the team today is 3,962 nautical miles squared.\nWe have divided the area into five sectors. The primary equipment\ninvolved includes 20 vessels,\u201d said Rizky Dwianto.<\/p>\n The deployment of 20 vessels today represents the largest number of\nships involved throughout the search process, which has now entered its\neighth day. On Monday (14\/9), 18 vessels were deployed.<\/p>",
