A total of 376 people were\nconfirmed dead and 40 others declared missing.<\/p>\n<p>Sri Wahyuni Pancasilawati, Head of Emergency Response, Equipment and\nLogistics at the North Sumatra Regional Disaster Management Agency\n(BPBD), said the search for the 40 missing victims has been officially\ncalled off. The decision was taken after various considerations,\nincluding field conditions and the readiness of victims\u2019 families.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe total number of deceased victims found stands at 376 people. The\nsearch for the remaining 40 has been halted,\u201d Sri Wahyuni said.<\/p>\n<p>According to Sri Wahyuni, the families of those yet to be found have\naccepted the cessation of search operations. At several affected\nlocations, families have held communal prayers and flower-scattering\nceremonies as a final tribute.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are still 40 missing. However, the search has been stopped and\nthe families have come to terms with it. Flower-scattering ceremonies\nhave been conducted at the sites,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>BPBD North Sumatra data shows that Central Tapanuli Regency suffered\nthe highest death toll at 131 people, with 33 missing. South Tapanuli\nRegency followed with 93 dead and four missing.<\/p>\n<p>Sibolga recorded 55 deaths; North Tapanuli Regency had 36 dead and\ntwo missing; Deli Serdang Regency had 17 dead; Langkat Regency had 16\ndead; and Humbang Hasundutan Regency had 10 dead and one missing.<\/p>\n<p>Medan city recorded 12 deaths; Pakpak Bharat Regency had two deaths;\nPadangsidimpuan city had one death; Nias Regency had two deaths; and\nSouth Nias Regency had one death.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the disaster having occurred three months ago, 4,638\nresidents continue to live in evacuation shelters. Local government has\nbegun a phased process of clearing the shelters as infrastructure\nrepairs and housing reconstruction progress.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are currently in the phase of clearing evacuees. It is hoped that\nthere will be no more displaced persons in evacuation tents by Ramadan,\u201d\nshe explained.<\/p>",
