        "content": "<p>SEAG team plans spectator campaign<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee<br>\npromised yesterday to learn from the recent National Games which<br>\nfailed to attract the attention of Jakartans.<\/p>\n<p>Ishadi SK, the committee's deputy for communication and<br>\npublications, said that the organizers plan to stage a campaign<br>\non the Games program by the end of this year.<\/p>\n<p>\"We have only six months for the campaign due to the fasting<br>\nmonth and Idul Fitri holidays early next year and the general<br>\nelection in May,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of the campaign is to encourage more people to<br>\ncome and watch all matches at all venues.<\/p>\n<p>Ishadi said that the organizers and the underwriting<br>\nconsortium, which is chaired by President Soeharto's son Bambang<br>\nTrihatmodjo, expects to launch the official logo and mascot for<br>\nthe Games in December.<\/p>\n<p>The organizers also plan to stage a photo exhibition, athlete-<br>\nfans get-togethers and face-to-face meetings with top athletes to<br>\nadd spice to the Games.<\/p>\n<p>\"Who knows, maybe we can invite Michael Jordan or Shaq O'Neall<br>\nto arrive during the Games,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>No less than 2,000 journalists from the 10 participating<br>\ncountries will cover the Games. The media center will be in a<br>\n5,500-square-meter room in the Jakarta Convention Center<br>\nbasement.<\/p>\n<p>Ishadi said that the six national TV stations will run a pool<br>\ncoverage of the 10-day Games. He will feature the plans at the<br>\nAsian Broadcasting Union meeting in Hong Kong this week and the<br>\nInternational Sports Journalists Conference in Malaysia two weeks<br>\nlater. (yan)<\/p>",
