SEAG team plans spectator campaign<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee
\npromised yesterday to learn from the recent National Games which
\nfailed to attract the attention of Jakartans.<\/p>\n
Ishadi SK, the committee's deputy for communication and
\npublications, said that the organizers plan to stage a campaign
\non the Games program by the end of this year.<\/p>\n
\"We have only six months for the campaign due to the fasting
\nmonth and Idul Fitri holidays early next year and the general
\nelection in May,\" he said.<\/p>\n
The purpose of the campaign is to encourage more people to
\ncome and watch all matches at all venues.<\/p>\n
Ishadi said that the organizers and the underwriting
\nconsortium, which is chaired by President Soeharto's son Bambang
\nTrihatmodjo, expects to launch the official logo and mascot for
\nthe Games in December.<\/p>\n
The organizers also plan to stage a photo exhibition, athlete-
\nfans get-togethers and face-to-face meetings with top athletes to
\nadd spice to the Games.<\/p>\n
\"Who knows, maybe we can invite Michael Jordan or Shaq O'Neall
\nto arrive during the Games,\" he said.<\/p>\n
No less than 2,000 journalists from the 10 participating
\ncountries will cover the Games. The media center will be in a
\n5,500-square-meter room in the Jakarta Convention Center
\nbasement.<\/p>\n
Ishadi said that the six national TV stations will run a pool
\ncoverage of the 10-day Games. He will feature the plans at the
\nAsian Broadcasting Union meeting in Hong Kong this week and the
\nInternational Sports Journalists Conference in Malaysia two weeks
