        "content": "<p>SE Asia, a safe tourism destination<\/p>\n<p>Associated Press, Phnom Penh<\/p>\n<p>Southeast Asian tourism ministers kicked off a four-day<br>\nconference Friday aimed at drawing up plans to promote the region<br>\nas a safe tourism destination.<\/p>\n<p>Regional tourism has taken a hit since October's terrorist<br>\nattacks on the Indonesian island of Bali, which killed nearly 200<br>\npeople. In the attacks' aftermath, foreign governments, including<br>\nthe United States, the UK and Australia, issued travel advisories<br>\nto the dismay of Southeast Asian nations which rely heavily on<br>\ntourism revenues.<\/p>\n<p>Hoping to counteract negative foreign assessments, the<br>\nministers said they plan \"to create a Web site on tourism safety<br>\nand security to provide precise and timely information for<br>\ntravelers, public, media as well as foreign governments in<br>\nresponse to travelers' concerns over safety and security.\"<\/p>\n<p>The plan was in a draft joint statement obtained by the<br>\nAssociated Press before its scheduled release later Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Ministers from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations<br>\n(ASEAN) were participating in the conference.<\/p>\n<p>ASEAN comprises Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia,<br>\nMyanmar, Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam.<\/p>\n<p>The ministers were scheduled to hold talks later Friday with<br>\ncounterparts from China, Japan and South Korea.<\/p>",
