Moscow (ANTARA) - The leaders of the member states of the Shanghai\nCooperation Organisation (SCO) have adopted the Bishkek Declaration and\nestablished plans to deepen cooperation in the fields of security,\ntrade, and technology, as the organisation commemorates its 25th\nanniversary.<\/p>\n
The declaration was ratified on Tuesday during the meeting of the SCO\nCouncil of Heads of State in the Kyrgyz capital, attended by several key\nregional leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian\nPresident Vladimir Putin, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.<\/p>\n
The declaration reaffirms the commitment of the ten member states to\ninternational law and the United Nations (UN) Charter. The leaders also\ncalled for strengthening the role of the UN in maintaining international\npeace and security, as well as promoting sustainable development.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, the declaration supports what member states describe as\na more representative and equitable multipolar world order. They also\ncalled for reforms in global governance to ensure that every nation has\na more equal role in decision-making processes.<\/p>\n
SCO leaders also called for the responsible use of artificial\nintelligence (AI), reforms to global economic governance, and the\nstrengthening of cooperation in sustainable development. They opposed\nwhat they termed as \u201cdouble standards,\u201d particularly regarding human\nrights issues.<\/p>\n
The group also emphasised the non-military character of the SCO. Its\nmember states stated their adherence to an approach that avoids\nblock-based and confrontational methods when addressing international\nand regional development issues.<\/p>\n
In addition to the declaration, leaders signed more than 20 other\ndocuments covering cooperation in security, the eradication of drug\ntrafficking, technology, transport, energy, and the environment.<\/p>\n
The summit also approved increased cooperation between the SCO and\nthe African Union Commission and designated Lahore, Pakistan, as the\nSCO\u2019s capital of tourism and culture for the 2026\u20132027 period.<\/p>\n
The SCO currently consists of ten member states: Belarus, China,\nIndia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and\nUzbekistan.<\/p>\n
