Kalimantan<\/p>\n<p>BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: At least 40 per cent of 3,018<br>\nprimary school buildings in South Kalimantan were in serious<br>\ndisrepair, a local official said.<\/p>\n<p>Abdullah Amin, head of the South Kalimantan education office,<br>\nsaid the 1,200 damaged buildings, found in all regencies and<br>\nmunicipalities across the province, were built in the 1970s and<br>\nhave since never been repaired.<\/p>\n<p>He said on Thursday that rehabilitation work was expected to<br>\ncost around Rp 1.2 trillion, suggesting that priority should be<br>\ngiven to the most seriously damaged buildings based on a thorough<br>\nselection.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, local educational observers and academics deplored<br>\nthe small budget allocated for education in the province, which<br>\nwas not conducive to the promotion of quality human resources. --<br>\nAntara<\/p>",
