Schools asked to use state-published books<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The Ministry of Education's Jakarta office has
\ncalled on all schools in Jakarta to use sets of books that are
\nspecially designed to cater for the needs of students at
\nelementary, junior and senior high schools.<\/p>\n
The Jakarta office's public relations chief Abdul Hamid said
\nhere on Monday that only few of Jakarta's schools utilize the
\nstate-published books, despite the fact that the books are free
\nof charge and there are enough copies available for students to
\nfollow their studies.<\/p>\n
He said that his office and the Social Institution for
\neducation care (LSM-P2B) in Jakarta had reached an agreement on
\nthe use of the specially-published books.<\/p>\n
Both of the institutions asked teachers not to organize the
\npurchase of other books for their respective schools. "The books
\nfrom the ministry are sufficient. If they have to purchase other
\nbooks to supplement their study materials then they should not
\nmake it compulsory for students, particularly poor ones," Abdul
\nHamid said.<\/p>\n
He warned that the book problem should not become a reason for
\npoor students to drop out of school.<\/p>",
