The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) has\nintroduced several changes to the implementation of the Friendly School\nOrientation Period (MPLS Ramah) for 2026. One of the main changes is the\nextension of the programme to five days, alongside the involvement of\nstudent council (OSIS) and class representative council (MPK) members at\njunior secondary (SMP) and senior secondary\/vocational (SMA\/SMK)\nlevels.<\/p>\n
Secretary of the Directorate General of Early Childhood, Primary, and\nSecondary Education, Eko Susanto, explained that the new policy is\nstipulated in Ministerial Regulation Number 12 of 2026. \u201cIn the\nprovisions of Permendikdasmen Number 12 of 2026, we have set the\nimplementation period at five days,\u201d Eko said in Jakarta on Wednesday\n(24\/6).<\/p>\n
According to Eko, the duration of the 2026 MPLS Ramah has been\nincreased by two days compared to the previous regulation outlined in\nPermendikbud Number 18 of 2016 concerning School Orientation for New\nStudents. This change allows new students more time to become familiar\nwith the school environment, learning culture, and various available\neducational programmes. However, the implementation of MPLS Ramah can be\nadjusted for boarding schools, special needs schools (SLB), and special\nservice schools, provided such adjustments are reported to the local\neducation office or the ministry in accordance with applicable\nregulations.<\/p>\n
In addition to the change in duration, Kemendikdasmen has updated the\nrules regarding the MPLS Ramah committee. This year, schools are\npermitted to involve students who are members of the OSIS or MPK as part\nof the organising committee at SMP and SMA\/SMK levels. However, student\ninvolvement is not unconditional. The ministry has emphasised that\nappointed participants must meet certain criteria to ensure the\nactivities are safe, comfortable, and support a positive school\nenvironment. \u201cOSIS or MPK members who assist the committee must\nprimarily have good character and no history of violence, so that the\nimplementation remains safe and positive,\u201d Eko stated.<\/p>\n
Based on Permendikdasmen Number 12 of 2026, students eligible to\nserve on the MPLS Ramah committee must be OSIS board members, MPK\nmembers, or extracurricular organisation board members. Furthermore,\nthey must not exhibit tendencies towards negative behaviour or have a\nhistory of committing violence or bullying. For schools that do not yet\nhave an OSIS, MPK, or extracurricular organisations, students may still\nbe involved in the committee, provided they have good academic or\nnon-academic achievements and adequate interpersonal skills.
