School buildings in Bekasi collapse<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Six new elementary school buildings in Bekasi
\nhave collapsed during the past month. Poor quality building
\nmaterials, strong winds and incessant heavy rain have been blamed
\nfor the collapses.<\/p>\n
The most recent school to fall apart was SD Bina Lindung in
\nPondok Gede. It collapsed on Jan.26, the Jayakarta daily
\nreported.<\/p>\n
The Bekasi administration has warned the contractors and has
\nthreatened to withdraw their licenses if they continue to build
\nshoddy structures, Bekasi administration spokeswoman Yaya
\nRuyatnasih said.<\/p>\n
She added that the Bekasi regent, Moch. Djamhari, recently met
\nwith a group of developers and contractors. During the meeting
\nthe regent warned them that he would black-list anyone who
\ncontinued to construct below standard schools.<\/p>\n
The chairman of the Bekasi office of the Indonesian
\nContractors Union, Zainal Arifin, said he fully understood the
\nadministration's complaint and promised to tighten supervision of
