The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem\nMohamed Albudaiwi, on Friday (11\/9) strongly condemned drone attacks\ntargeting Saudi Arabia\u2019s East-West Pipeline in the Riyadh and Madinah\nregions.<\/p>\n
Riyadh stated that the attacks originated from Iraq, resulting in\nseveral injuries and damage to various facilities.<\/p>\n
Albudaiability stated that the attack represents a dangerous\nescalation and an unacceptable threat to the security of the Kingdom of\nSaudi Arabia, its territorial integrity, and other vital facilities. He\nalso described the attack as a blatant violation of the principles of\ninternational law.<\/p>\n
Albudaiwi urged Iraq to intensify its efforts and take the necessary\nand decisive measures to prevent its territory from being used as a\nlaunchpad for such attacks. He reaffirmed the GCC\u2019s full and steadfast\nsolidarity with Saudi Arabia, expressing complete support for all\nmeasures taken by Riyadh to protect the security, stability, territorial\nintegrity, facilities, and citizens of the Kingdom.<\/p>\n
Saudi Arabia previously stated on Friday that it had temporarily\nsuspended operations of the East-West Pipeline as a precautionary\nmeasure after several drones attacked the oil pipeline route in the\nRiyadh and Madinah regions on Thursday morning.<\/p>\n
The Saudi Ministry of Energy reported that several individuals were\ninjured and have received medical treatment. The attack also caused\ndamage to the pipeline. Emergency and technical teams have been deployed\nto secure the facilities and assess the situation.<\/p>\n
The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the drones\noriginated from Iraq.<\/p>\n
Riyadh stated it had decided not to retaliate \u201cat this stage\u201d after\nthe Iraqi Prime Minister requested that Saudi Arabia allow Baghdad the\nopportunity to take steps to prevent further attacks launched from Iraqi\nterritory.<\/p>\n
Saudi Arabia said it supports Baghdad\u2019s efforts but maintains its\nright to take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty,\nsecurity, and infrastructure.<\/p>\n
