Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain reported successfully intercepting waves of drone and ballistic missile attacks launched from Iran on 10 March 2026, marking a major escalation in Middle Eastern tensions. The attacks follow joint Israeli-American military operations against Iran in late February that killed over 1,200 Iranians and wounded 10,000 others. Iran's response has triggered international concern about a wider regional conflict unless de-escalation efforts are undertaken immediately.

Tensions in the Middle East region escalated significantly after
Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the UAE reported successful interception of
waves of drone and ballistic missile attacks launched from Iran on
Tuesday, 10 March 2026.

This attack marked the latest escalation in the regional conflict
triggered by joint military operations by the United States and Israel
against Iran in late February.

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defence stated that its air defence
systems successfully repelled threats directed at strategic
infrastructure. In the south-eastern region, two unmanned aerial
vehicles (UAVs) targeting the Shaybah oil field were shot down.

Additionally, through social media platform X, Saudi authorities
confirmed the interception of six ballistic missiles directed at Prince
Sultan Air Base. In the eastern part of the country, specifically in
Hafar al-Batin province, one additional missile and two drones were also
destroyed before reaching land.

The UAE’s Ministry of Defence affirmed full readiness in protecting
its territory and citizens. According to official data, the intensity of
aerial attacks faced by the UAE has been very high since the conflict
began.

Meanwhile, Bahrain responded to the attack by activating warning
sirens throughout the country. Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior urged
citizens to remain calm and immediately seek shelter at the nearest safe
location to mitigate the impact of the attacks.

This escalation in military activity followed a joint attack launched
by Israel and the United States against Iran on 28 February 2026. The
operation resulted in significant casualties, with reports indicating
over 1,200 deaths and 10,000 wounded on the Iranian side.

Tehran responded by launching missile and drone attacks targeting US
military assets throughout the Gulf region and several locations in
Israel. Iran characterised these actions as a self-defence measure
against aggression that violated its sovereignty.

The international community is now concerned about the outbreak of a
wider conflict if de-escalation efforts are not undertaken immediately
by the parties involved.
",
