        "content": "<p>Saudi Arabia\u2019s air defence systems have intercepted more than 60\ndrones launched at the kingdom overnight, including dozens downed over\nthe capital Riyadh and the Eastern Region, the Saudi Defence Ministry\nannounced on Monday, 16 March 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Ministry spokesman Major General Turki al-Maliki revealed that 34\ndrones were intercepted and destroyed in the Eastern Region within a\ntwo-hour period on Sunday, 15 March, according to Saudi Press Agency\n(SPA) as reported by Al Arabiya.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier on Sunday, 15 March, Saudi authorities stated that the air\ndefence system successfully intercepted and destroyed 25 drones that\nentered the country\u2019s airspace overnight.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Anadolu Agency, the Saudi Defence Ministry reported\nthat the drones were detected entering the country\u2019s airspace from\nSaturday evening and were immediately destroyed by the air defence\nsystem.<\/p>\n<p>However, authorities did not provide details regarding the launch\nlocation of the drones or whether the attacks caused any damage or\ncasualties.<\/p>\n<p>A series of drone and missile attacks against Gulf states have\nintensified since 28 February, when the United States and Israel\nlaunched strikes against Iran.
