        "content": "<p>Saudi Arabian authorities have firmly rejected media reports claiming\nthat Riyadh has been quietly lobbying US President Donald Trump to\nattack Iran.<\/p>\n<p>The prominent American media outlet The Washington Post reported that\nSaudi Arabia had conducted a discreet lobbying campaign against Trump\nover recent weeks and months. The denial of the Washington Post report,\nwhich cited four sources familiar with the matter, was issued by the\nSaudi Arabian Embassy in Washington on Monday 2 March 2026.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been consistent in supporting\ndiplomatic efforts to achieve a credible agreement with Iran,\u201d said\nSaudi Embassy spokesperson Fahad Nazer in a statement via social media\nplatform X.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have never in any of our communications with the Trump\nadministration lobbied the President to adopt a different policy,\u201d Nazer\nemphasised.<\/p>\n<p>Saudi Arabia is among the Gulf states attempting to prevent military\nconfrontation in the Middle East region and has publicly stated that\nRiyadh will not be part of any potential conflict.<\/p>\n<p>Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS), the Kingdom\u2019s de facto\nruler, told Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in a telephone\nconversation on 26 January that Saudi Arabia would not allow its\nairspace or territory to be used for any military strikes against\nIran.<\/p>\n<p>However, following major US and Israeli military operations on\nSaturday 28 February, Iran began launching attacks against neighbouring\ncountries hosting American forces.<\/p>\n<p>The United States, along with Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait,\nQatar, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), signed a joint statement on\nSunday 1 March evening condemning Iran for targeting their nations and\ncivilians in the region.<\/p>\n<p>The US and Israeli operations against Iran killed senior leadership\nfigures and high-ranking officials from Tehran, including the nation\u2019s\nSupreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who had been in power for the\nprevious 36 years.<\/p>",
