Satya Wacana bans protests<\/p>\n
SALATIGA, Central Java: The management of the divided campus
\nof Satya Wacana Christian University have banned demonstrations
\non campus and threatened to punish anyone violating the rule.<\/p>\n
\"The university's foundation has formed a task force to
\nenforce discipline on campus and crack down on protesters,\" the
\nuniversity foundation's legal advisor, Johannes Danny Zacharias,
\nsaid yesterday.<\/p>\n
Tensions have been running high in the prestigious university
\nsince its students, teachers and leaders were split over last
\nyear's election of rector John JOI Ihalauw and the subsequent
\ndismissal of outspoken academic Arief Budiman.<\/p>\n
The new rule does not appear to have frightened the supporters
\nof Arief, who are threatening further protests unless new
\nelections to the rectorship are held and Arief is reinstated.
