        "content": "<p>Sarawak lost $297m per day<\/p>\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR (Reuter): Malaysia's smog-hit state of Sarawak<br>\nlost 100 million ringgit (US$29.7 million) a day during last<br>\nmonth's 10-day state of emergency, the New Straits Times said on<br>\nMonday.<\/p>\n<p>The losses were suffered by the private and public sectors,<br>\nthe government and individuals, the newspaper quoted Sarawak's<br>\nChief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud as saying.<\/p>\n<p>He did not provide details.<\/p>\n<p>The state of emergency in Sarawak, on the Malaysian side of<br>\nBorneo island, northern part of Kalimantan was declared on<br>\nSept.19 when smog from burning forests in neighboring Indonesia<br>\nreduced visibility to a few metres.<\/p>\n<p>The emergency forced the closure of schools and businesses<br>\nexcept those considered critical services.
