The Joint SAR Team has officially extended the search operation for\nfive journalists and three citizens who have lost contact in the waters\nof the Sunda Strait. This decision was made to extend the search period\nfor the next three days after efforts up to the seventh day yielded no\nresults.<\/p>\n
The Head of the Banten SAR Office, Al Amrad, explained that the\ndecision to extend the operation was based on a thorough evaluation of\nthe SAR operations conducted over the past week, as well as the results\nof a coordination meeting by the Joint SAR Team.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe evaluation of the SAR operation on the seventh day we conducted\nstill resulted in nothing. Based on the results of the Joint SAR Team\nmeeting, we will continue the search for the next three days,\u201d Al Amrad\nstated during a press conference in Pandeglang, Banten, on Monday\n(14\/9).<\/p>\n
The focus of the search during this extension period remains on the\neight individuals aboard the speed boat Arupadhatu 1. The vessel was\npreviously reported to have lost contact in the waters around Mount Anak\nKrakatau.<\/p>\n
On the same occasion, the Governor of Banten, Andra Soni, stated that\nthe extension of the SAR operation has a strong legal basis in\naccordance with applicable laws and regulations. He explained that,\naccording to standard procedure, the standard search period is seven\ndays. However, this duration can be increased based on special\nconsiderations, including requests from the victims\u2019 families or the\nlocal government.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe search period is set at seven days, but it can be extended for\nseveral reasons, one of which is requests from families and also\nrequests from the local government,\u201d said Andra Soni.<\/p>\n
The Banten Provincial Government has officially requested Basarnas to\ncontinue this operation with full support from various stakeholders.\nAndra Soni also instructed the Banten Regional Police, the Banten Naval\nBase, and other relevant agencies in the Banten region to synergise and\noptimise the search during this extension period.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will maximise our efforts and strive to find our brothers and\nsisters,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n
Searches in the Sunda Strait waters were previously reported to be\nhindered by weather factors, including thick fog that limits visibility,\nas well as volcanic activity around the Mount Anak Krakatau area.<\/p>\n
The Joint SAR Team has expanded the search area for the five\njournalists and three citizens lost in the Sunda Strait towards the\nIndian Ocean, following the shift in ocean currents.<\/p>\n
The Joint SAR Team has also discovered life jackets and tarpaulins\nwhile searching for the eight individuals, including the five\njournalists, in the waters of Mount Anak Krakatau, Sunda Strait.
