Sandiaga Uno has returned to the corporate sector by taking strategic leadership roles in two small-cap companies, PT Mutuagung Lestari Tbk (MUTU) and PT Data Sinergitama Jaya Tbk (ELIT). Unlike his previous involvement in large-cap firms, these moves involve direct operational roles and capital injections into smaller-scale enterprises.

Sandiaga Uno has resumed a strategic role in public companies after
more than a decade of leaving professional positions to enter politics.
This time, Sandiaga’s choice is considered unusual as he is entering two
relatively small-cap issuers, PT Mutuagung Lestari Tbk (MUTU) and PT
Data Sinergitama Jaya Tbk (ELIT).

Sandiaga Uno was officially appointed as the President Commissioner
of MUTU for the 2026-2029 period following an Extraordinary General
Meeting of Shareholders (EGMS) on 24 August 2026. Two days later, he was
appointed as a Commissioner of ELIT and entrusted to lead the strategic
advisory council of Elitery to strengthen investment strategies and
international expansion.

Before returning to public companies, Sandiaga’s last recorded
professional positions were at PT Saratoga Investama Sedaya Tbk (SRTG)
and PT Alamtri Resources Indonesia Tbk (ADRO). He stepped down in 2015
before entering national politics, which included running as a
vice-presidential candidate alongside Prabowo Subianto in the 2019
Presidential Election.

Sandiaga Uno holds direct and indirect investment exposure to SRTG,
ADRO, AADI, MDKA, TBIG, MPMX, and PALM. These issuers have market
capitalisations ranging from approximately Rp 5 trillion to Rp 75
trillion.

In contrast, the market capitalisation of MUTU and ELIT is in the
range of Rp 500 billion. This value is less than one-tenth of the lower
limit of the capitalisation of the large issuers that have previously
been part of Sandiaga’s portfolio.

“The difference in scale makes Sandiaga’s move interesting because he
is not merely gaining passive investment exposure. Instead, he is taking
a direct role in both companies,” said Jason in Jakarta on Monday
(31/8/2026).

In MUTU, Sandiaga entered through a private placement scheme. PT
Samala Serasi Utama, a partnership entity with Roestiandi Tsamanov,
absorbed 103,092,700 new shares, while PT Bumi Hijau Sedaya also took up
41,237,100 shares.

According to analysis by Pluang Maju Sekuritas, this pattern differs
from opportunistic share purchases in the secondary market. Direct
capital placement into the company’s capital structure, followed by the
position of President Commissioner, indicates a long-term
commitment.

Sandiaga Uno’s involvement in ELIT does not stop at the commissioner
position. He leads the strategic advisory council, which is mandated to
strengthen investment strategies, international expansion, and business
development in the financial sector.

Pluang Maju Sekuritas assesses that this role demonstrates a
strategic involvement rather than a ceremonial one. The mandate for
international expansion also indicates that ELIT has ambitions for
business development beyond domestic operations.

Meanwhile, Sandiaga’s involvement in MUTU can be interpreted through
opportunities in the green economy sector. MUTU operates in
certification and testing, which is related to the needs of carbon
trading, emissions reporting, and the validation of renewable energy
projects.

Sandiaga’s background in the commodities and energy sectors through
ADRO and AADI is considered to provide relevant networks and industry
understanding. These factors have the potential to support the
development of MUTU’s green certification business to a wider client
base in the commodities and energy sectors.
",
