Sanchoon gets Changi contract<\/p>\n
SINGAPORE: A contract to build a terminal at Singapore's
\nChangi Airport for low-cost carriers was awarded to Sanchoon
\nBuilders Ptd. Ltd., the Civil Aviation Authority announced on
\nSaturday.<\/p>\n
The terminal, to be made up of two adjacent single-story
\nbuildings connected via linkways, is scheduled for completion in
\nearly 2006.<\/p>\n
Four low-cost carriers are currently using Changi. They are
\nValuair, Tiger Airlines, Jet Star and Thai AirAsia.<\/p>\n
The terminal will have an initial capacity of 2.7 million
\npassengers a year, the authority said in a statement.<\/p>\n
"There is scope for further expansion should more carriers
\nwant to use the terminal," it said.<\/p>\n
The S$24.7 million (US$15 million) contract stipulates
\nconstruction work to begin during the first quarter of this year.<\/p>\n
"Departing passengers will check-in for their flights, clear
\ndeparture immigration and security screening, and wait at one of
\nthe six boarding areas before walking about 15-20 meters to the
