San Miguel to build beverage facility in Indonesia<\/p>\n

Philippines brewer San Miguel Corp. said Thursday it has
\nbroken ground for a new beverage manufacturing facility in
\nIndonesia as part of its Asian expansion.<\/p>\n
The project would be located outside Jakarta, at the MM2100
\nIndustrial City in the city of Bekasi in the west of Java island,
\nSan Miguel said in a statement.<\/p>\n
Company officials visited the site to lay markers prior to the
\nstart of construction.<\/p>\n
A new company called PT San Miguel Indonesia Foods and
\nBeverage will be created and it will manufacture and distribute
\nready-to-drink soft beverages.<\/p>\n
San Miguel will control an 85 percent stake in the firm, and
\nPT Delta Djakarta Tbk, its brewery in Indonesia, will hold the
\nbalance of 15 percent, the statement said.<\/p>\n
The Philippine company said more ground-breaking activities
\nare scheduled within the year in Australia, Vietnam, China and
\nMalaysia.<\/p>\n
The firm has more than 100 manufacturing facilities in the
\nPhilippines, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Vietnam and Australia.
\nIt exports its products to more than 40 countries.<\/p>\n
It noted Indonesia's huge beverage market had been growing at
\nan average of 20 percent in the past five years.<\/p>\n
\"This new business reflects San Miguel's full confidence in
\nIndonesia as a fast-growing economy and manifests our continuing
\ncommitment to promote the best interests of consumers in this
\ncountry,\" San Miguel chief executive Eduardo Cojuangco said in
\nthe statement.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, San Miguel said it has also completed its
\nacquisition of the brewery assets of Thai Amarit Brewery Ltd.,
\nwhich is also part of its aggressive regional expansion program.<\/p>\n
The assets include a modern and fully-equipped brewery and the
\nacquisition would complement other San Miguel projects in
\nThailand.<\/p>\n
Also as part of its expansion program, the firm said it is
\nalso eyeing to set up a beer and liquor unit in Malaysia.<\/p>",
