The members of the central legislature and regional
\ncouncillors seem to have not realized the difficulties faced by
\nthe government and society at this time. They are only concerned
\nabout their own interests, and their continuous demands for
\ncertain facilities sound unthinkably senseless.<\/p>\n
These range from salary increases, additional operational
\nallowances, official cars, housing, personal work-rooms and
\nsecretaries, to monuments celebrating their memory.<\/p>\n
Truly they have turned a deaf ear and are blind to the
\nrealities of most people's lives. They are also grossly
\ninsensitive.<\/p>\n
Realizing the huge burden of the fuel subsidies the government
\nhas to bear, it should be necessary to consider cutting the net
\nincome of legislators and regional councillors by about 60
\npercent.<\/p>\n
These so-called people's representatives would more
\nappropriately stay at government-standardized messes, instead of
\nat star-rated hotels. They should also use buses to go to and
\nfrom the office.<\/p>\n
Official travels or visits should be done only for programs
\nthat have absolute priority and urgency. They should not ask for
\nadditional funds or services from business establishments.<\/p>\n
Their remunerations should be calculated on a similar basis to
\nthat of other government employees, because their function is to
\nserve the people's interests. So they should not use their jobs
\nas a means to make a fortune. They are working to serve the
\npublic, not the political parties, so if they want real wealth,
\nthey should quit their government-related jobs and become
\nentrepreneurs or work in the private sector.<\/p>\n
