PT Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP) is committed to preserving environmental quality in the Weda Bay industrial area in Central Halmahera, North Maluku, through the measured management of fly ash (FABA) using advanced technologies like Electrostatic Precipitators to control emissions. The company collects and stores bottom ash in dedicated facilities, monitors air quality regularly, and complies with national regulations, while repurposing FABA as an alternative material for internal construction projects such as employee sports facilities and pedestrian paths. This approach underscores IWIP's dedication to sustainable industrial operations that minimise environmental impacts and promote responsible resource utilisation.

PT Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP) is committed to
safeguarding environmental quality in the Weda Bay industrial zone,
Central Halmahera, North Maluku. This commitment is implemented, among
other things, through the management of fly ash and bottom ash (FABA),
applying measured technology and operational procedures. Corporate
Environmental Manager of PT IWIP, Yofi Safutra, stated that IWIP has
implemented an emission control system designed to minimise potential
impacts on the environment and surrounding communities. “The fly ash
produced from the combustion process is captured using Electrostatic
Precipitator (ESP) technology with high efficiency. This technology
functions to control particles so they do not escape into the free air,”
said Yofi in his statement on Tuesday, 14 April 2026. In addition to fly
ash, IWIP also manages bottom ash, which consists of larger particles
that settle at the bottom of the combustion furnace. This material is
collected directly from the boiler system and placed in specially
designed storage facilities to prevent potential spread to the
environment. Furthermore, Yofi emphasised that the entire FABA
management process is carried out in reference to approved environmental
documents and applicable national regulations. “We also conduct regular
monitoring of ambient air quality and other environmental parameters to
ensure that all operations continue to meet the established quality
standards,” he said. Under certain conditions and through processes that
meet requirements, this material can be reused or recycled as a
supporting material in various industrial needs. In its implementation,
IWIP utilises FABA as an alternative raw material for construction
products such as bricks, paving blocks, concrete blocks, and as a
substitute material in concrete mixtures. This utilisation is applied in
various internal company infrastructure developments, such as employee
sports facilities, gardens, accommodation, pedestrian paths, and other
maintenance activities. “Through the application of technology and
sustainable management, IWIP strives to ensure that the potential
impacts of FABA can be controlled while supporting environmentally
responsible industrial operations,” he stated. For information, fly ash
is fine particles resulting from the combustion of materials containing
minerals, particularly from the use of coal in power plants. Meanwhile,
bottom ash consists of heavier particles that settle at the bottom of
the combustion furnace.
",
